This website is very interesting for anyone who is teaching or learning any kind of history. It is called “This Day in History” and is put up by the History Channel. It is extremely reliable. We know this because the History Channel is reviewed and created by social studies experts in all different types history. This proves that the information on this site is very credible. This site allows the viewer to see what happened, as the title suggests, on this day in history. Whatever day it is when you log into this site, historical information from that day will appear. The first thing that you see when entering the site is a short video that the history channel creates that talks about the main event from this day in the past. Under the video, there is a extended article on that main event. For example, if it was April 26 when someone entered the site, a video and article that talks about how polio vaccine field trials started.
While the main event that happened is the first thing that appears, that is not all that this site contains. On the left hand side there are links to different events that happened on this day. When these links are clicked, you are directed to another extended article that talks about that event.
This site is very useful for teachers of all grades. In my opinion it could be used as a very interesting start to the day. Teachers can grab the student’s attention early by giving different facts of why that day is and was important in history. A lot of teachers like to open their class with currents events. This is a good substitute.
This site is very interesting and there are different links that can direct you to information that one might not find in a textbook.
